Preparing for Hairline Lowering Surgery

In preparation for Hairline Lowering Surgery, a patient may be required to:

• Consult with a plastic surgeon about the desired goal and possible complications
• Complete a physical examination
• Get lab tests, including a blood test, chest X-ray etc.
• Stop smoking or drinking alcohol at least two weeks before and after the surgery
• Stop eating or consuming food at least six hours before the surgery
• Avoid taking Aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and herbal supplements two weeks before the procedure

• Typically, surgeons perform this surgery under general anesthesia 
• The surgeon makes an incision at the hairline. This new opening allows the surgeon to access and remove excess forehead skin.
• The hairline is placed in a new lowered position. On average, this procedure reduces a person’s forehead size by up to an inch.
• The skin is sutured together. 

Postoperative care

• Remove the stitches seven days after the procedure
• Keep the head elevated for two weeks to help reduce swelling
• Take medication to control the pain and swelling
• In some cases, a patient may come back for a follow-up hair transplant
• Attend all follow-up appointments
